Office replaced its earlier Sig Sauer pistols with a Smith & Wesson handgun (model not named), per an August 2025 report quoting a sheriff's major.

An August 2025 Foster's Daily Democrat report quotes a Rockingham County Sheriff's Office major saying the office did not use the Sig Sauer P320. It had used a different Sig Sauer pistol model but had already replaced those with a Smith & Wesson handgun (model not named), chosen partly for handling by officers with smaller hands. The duty role is inferred from the context of the article.
