Policy dated August 20, 2024. The 9mm Glock replaced the .40 SIG P229 DAK starting in 2015 (year approximate, per a December 2014 report).

Grand Rapids PD policy 9-2.1 names the Glock Model 17 9mm as the department's primary issued firearm.

Plainclothes/detective assignment. Policy 9-2.1 says the Glock 26 9mm may be issued to plainclothes officers as authorized by the Chief of Police; plainclothes officers may also carry an approved Glock 26 (Gen 5) MOS with a pistol-mounted optic after approval and optic training.

Optional primary: policy 9-2.1 lets officers carry an approved Glock 45 (Gen 5) MOS with an approved pistol-mounted optic after Training Unit approval and optic training/qualification. The optic model is not named.

Purchase approved December 2015 for placement in patrol cars. Current status not re-verified.

FOX 17 reported in December 2015 that the Grand Rapids City Commission approved Colt M4 semi-automatic rifles to be placed in patrol cars, with 32 hours of training for each officer equipped with one.
