Duty Arms Index

What red dot / optic do police use?

The Aimpoint COA is the most common police optic in the index: 28 of 129 agencies with a sourced optic issue it (21.7%), ahead of the Holosun HE509T (14) and the Aimpoint ACRO P-2 (13). 119 agencies have a sourced optic on a duty pistol and 16 on a patrol rifle or carbine. Another 26 agencies are sourced as issuing optics without a named model; they count toward the totals and brands below, not the model ranking.

Data coverage: Based on 129 agencies in the Duty Arms Index with a current, sourced optic entry (out of 1,179 agencies with a sourced duty pistol, rifle or shotgun). Each agency counts once per optic model, even if it mounts it on several guns; tactical-unit (SWAT) gear is excluded. Counts include only current entries with a public source; agencies not yet in the index, or without a sourced entry for this item, are not counted, so treat shares as a picture of the Duty Arms Index, not of every U.S. agency. Data last updated Oct 10, 2026.
