What is the most common police duty pistol?

The Glock G17 is the most common primary duty pistol in the index: 157 of 570 agencies with a sourced primary duty pistol issue it (27.5%), ahead of the Glock G45 (126) and the Glock G22 (74). Generations and optic-cut variants are combined per model family. For every current pistol entry, including backup and plainclothes guns, see this ranking.

Data coverage: Based on 570 agencies in the Duty Arms Index with a current, sourced primary duty pistol entry (one primary issue per agency; agencies that authorize several primaries count once for each). Counts include only current entries with a public source; agencies not yet in the index, or without a sourced entry for this item, are not counted, so treat shares as a picture of the Duty Arms Index, not of every U.S. agency. Data last updated Oct 9, 2026.
